This is an oldie dating back to 2008 but still hugely inspirational for me.  John Lanzafame from Australia was the pizza man back then and this book brings together some of his favourite recipes. At the time he was the Executive Chef at Hugo’s Lounge in Sydney and won international acclaim at pizza competitions including being named the World Pizza Champion. Highbrow in pizza terms indeed!

Each recipe in the book is accompanied by visually appealing photography giving a good visual representation as this is not always easy with a pizza. Although the Italians will eat pizza very simply with just 2 or 3 exemplary ingredients John takes us along a more adventurous path with offerings such as eggplant and spatchcock confit or braised goat with egg and summer truffle. These are of course complimented with more traditional examples and a useful variety of bases. At the back of the book are a handful of sweet pizza recipes but I am not a huge fan. I want my pizza to be savoury but perhaps I just too traditional.

If you enjoy making your own pizza (and I do) then this book is a must. I personally make pizza in a pan in batches of 12 to put in the freezer. They are perfect for a quick emergency dinner.

John  has now joined Criniti’s (@crinitis) in Sydney as their executive chef cooking a broad range of Italian cuisine.
